Chihuahua’s make great companion pets. They are believed to have originated in either Egypt or Sudan. There have even been mummified remains of what are believed to have been chihuahua’s in Egyptian tombs.

The chihuahua is a very intelligent dog, who loves to spend time with their owner. They are very curious and active. This, combined with their love of their family, will mean a lot of entertainment. Chihuahua’s are very affectionate, although they are more affectionate with their family than strangers, to which they can be a bit suspicious. This makes them great little watchdogs.

Perhaps surprisingly, chihuahua’s don’t make ideal apartment pets. It’s not a size issue, as they can often get their exercise from a run around a reasonably big apartment, or a daily walk. Rather, they aren’t the quietest of dogs, and so may cause sound problems with neighbors unless the rooms are soundproofed.

One thing a chihuahua does need is a lot of attention, and both mental and physical stimulation. This is not the breed to get if you are away a lot, or don’t have time to spend with your dog.

Chihuahua’s live for quite a long time for a dog - on average twelve to sixteen years. They are easy to care for, although if your dog s outside, check his coat for ticks.
